The Study

What Is a Mobile Echocardiogram?

A mobile echocardiogram is a painless heart ultrasound performed at your home, workplace, or a community partner location instead of inside a hospital or imaging center. Using sound waves, it produces real-time images of your heart's chambers, valves, pumping strength, and blood flow patterns. The scan takes approximately 45 minutes. There are no needles, no radiation, and no special preparation.

The term "mobile" refers to the delivery model, not the equipment. BlackPoint uses the same Mindray diagnostic ultrasound platform found in accredited hospital echo labs. The clinical protocol, image quality, and diagnostic accuracy are identical to a hospital-based transthoracic echocardiogram. The difference is where it happens and how much simpler the process is for you.

Every study is performed by Emanuel Papadakis, RDCS, RVT, a cardiovascular sonographer with twenty years of clinical imaging experience. Every report is reviewed and signed by a board-certified cardiologist. For a detailed breakdown of what this scan measures, see our full echocardiogram guide.

Hospital vs. Home

Why Choose a Mobile Echocardiogram Over a Hospital?

The hospital system was built around the hospital. The referral, the pre-authorization, the multi-week wait, the drive, the parking, the gown, the waiting room. None of that has anything to do with the quality of the ultrasound. The scan itself takes 45 minutes. Everything around it can take weeks.

No Referral Required

Book directly. No physician referral. No insurance pre-authorization. No gatekeeping between you and the information you need about your heart.

Same-Week Scheduling

Hospital echo labs often book 4–8 weeks out. Most BlackPoint patients are seen within days of booking. We come to you on your schedule.

$397 Flat — No Surprises

One price covers everything: the scan, the cardiologist interpretation, and the written clinical report. No facility fees, no separate physician charges, no surprise bills. HSA and FSA accepted.

Hospital-Grade Equipment

Mindray diagnostic ultrasound system — the same platform used in accredited hospital echo labs. This is not a handheld point-of-care device. It is full diagnostic imaging.

Your Home. Your Comfort.

No hospital gowns, no waiting rooms, no exposure to other patients. The scan happens on your couch or bed, in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

Results in 24–48 Hours

A board-certified cardiologist reviews your images and delivers a detailed, plain-language clinical report. Clear findings. Clear next steps. No wondering.

What We're Looking For

What a Mobile Echocardiogram Evaluates

Ejection Fraction

How efficiently your heart pumps blood with each beat. A reduced ejection fraction is one of the earliest indicators of heart failure — often detected before symptoms appear.

Heart Valve Function

Evaluates all four valves for stenosis (narrowing) and regurgitation (leaking). Aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation are among the most common findings in adults over 50.

Chamber Size & Wall Thickness

Enlarged chambers or thickened walls often signal long-standing hypertension, cardiomyopathy, or other conditions placing chronic strain on the heart.

Diastolic Function

Measures how well your heart relaxes between beats. Diastolic dysfunction is the most underdiagnosed form of heart failure, especially in patients with hypertension or diabetes.

Pericardial Effusion

Fluid around the heart that can indicate inflammation, infection, or more serious conditions. Even small amounts are clinically significant and warrant monitoring.

Wall Motion Abnormalities

Segments of the heart wall that are not contracting normally — a telltale sign of previous heart attack or current ischemia that may have gone unnoticed.

Is a mobile echocardiogram as accurate as one done in a hospital?

Yes. BlackPoint uses the same Mindray diagnostic ultrasound platform found in accredited hospital labs. Every study is performed by an ARDMS-certified cardiac sonographer with twenty years of experience and reviewed by a board-certified cardiologist (FACC, FASE). The clinical quality is identical.

How much does a mobile echocardiogram cost?

$397 flat — all-inclusive. No facility fees, no surprise bills. This includes the scan, cardiologist interpretation, and a written clinical report delivered within 24–48 hours. HSA and FSA accepted.

Do I need a doctor's referral for a mobile echocardiogram?
