The Reason for Six

Why Six Studies, In One Sitting

This is the complete examination: the heart itself, and every vascular territory we screen. It exists because cardiovascular disease does not present itself one organ at a time.

The heart, examined directly

An echocardiogram measures pumping strength, valve function and chamber size. No blood test, blood pressure reading or physical exam substitutes for seeing the heart move.

Every artery we can reach with ultrasound

Neck, abdomen, kidneys and both legs. The same disease process runs through all of them, and each fails in a different and largely silent way.

The veins as well as the arteries

Blood returning is as important as blood arriving. Failing vein valves and deep vein clots are found on the same visit.

Read as one picture, by one cardiologist

Six studies in one sitting, interpreted together. A finding in the heart changes how the carotid images are read; a finding in the legs changes how the heart is read.

This is the package for someone who wants the question answered properly rather than partially. Booked separately these six studies cost $2,382 and would take six appointments across several weeks, producing six reports that nobody reads side by side.

What Is Included

What Each Scan Shows

Echocardiogram — about 45 minutes

Pumping function, valves, chambers, wall motion. More →

Carotid Duplex with IMT — about 30 minutes

Plaque, narrowing and artery-wall thickness. More →

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screen — about 30 minutes

Diameter of the body's largest artery. More →

Renal Arterial Doppler — about 45 minutes

Blood flow to both kidneys. More →

Lower Extremity Venous Doppler — about 30 minutes

Vein valves, varicose veins and deep vein clots, both legs. More →

Lower Extremity Arterial Ultrasound — about 30 minutes

Arterial flow to both legs. More →

All performed in the same visit by the same sonographer, and all read by the same cardiologist — so the findings are interpreted together rather than in isolation.

What Happens

Your Visit, Step by Step

About three hours, start to finish. No needles, no radiation.

Before you come

Fast for six hours — the aortic and renal studies image through the abdomen. Water and medications as normal. Wear something easy to change out of; this is a three-hour visit and comfort matters.

The echocardiogram — about 45 minutes

Lying on your left side, with a few short breath-holds. You can watch your own heart on the screen.

Neck and abdomen — about an hour

Carotid arteries, then the aorta and renal arteries.

Both legs, arteries and veins — about an hour

Arterial flow, then the venous study with gentle compression along each leg.

A cardiologist reads all six

Board-certified, in a lab holding IAC accreditation in both Echocardiography and Vascular Testing. All six read together, in one sitting.

Your report, within 24–48 hours

One written report covering all six studies, with measurements, formatted for your physician.

What We Detect

Conditions This Package
Can Identify

Combining these studies gives your cardiologist a comprehensive view that no single scan can provide.

The Honest Part

If We Find Something

Most people screen and get reassurance. Some do not — and that is the point of screening. Here is exactly what happens in that case.

The Numbers

Package vs Buying Separately

Separately — $2,382

Six studies at $397 each, booked one at a time. Separate appointments, separate trips, and reports read in isolation.

As a package — $2,197

One appointment, about three hours. Every study read together by the same cardiologist, in one report. $185 less, and the days back.

No referral. No insurance. No prior authorization. The price you see is the price you pay, due at the appointment — HSA and FSA cards are accepted.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Three hours is a long appointment. Why?

Six studies performed to diagnostic standard take that long. Done separately they would be six appointments over several weeks. This is the same work compressed into one morning.

Is this overkill if I feel well?

Feeling well is the normal state for every condition on this list until it is not. Valve disease, carotid plaque, aortic aneurysm and reduced pumping function are all typically silent. If you have no cardiovascular risk factors at all, a smaller package is the sensible choice; this one is aimed at people with several.

What is the difference between this and the Comprehensive Vascular package?

The echocardiogram. That package covers arteries and veins — five studies, no heart imaging. This one adds the heart itself, which is the single most common source of the findings that change management.

Do I need a referral in Maine?

No. You can book directly with no referral, prior authorization or insurance approval.

Do I need to fast?

Yes, six hours — the aortic and renal portions image through the abdomen. Water and medications are fine.
