Your surgery is scheduled. Your surgeon has requested cardiac clearance. Now you're looking at a 4–6 week wait for an echocardiogram at a hospital or imaging center — and your surgical date is in jeopardy. This is a common and avoidable bottleneck in Maine's healthcare system.
SAME-WEEK SCHEDULING — REPORT IN 24–48 HOURS
BlackPoint Diagnostics performs preoperative echocardiograms at your home with same-week availability. A board-certified cardiologist reviews every study and delivers a written report within 24–48 hours — fast enough to keep your pre-op paperwork on schedule.

An echocardiogram is the standard pre-operative cardiac evaluation. Here's what surgeons and anesthesiologists are looking for:
EF measures how effectively the left ventricle pumps blood with each beat. Reduced EF (below 50–55%) significantly increases the risk of cardiac complications during and after major surgery. Anesthesiologists use this number to plan intraoperative monitoring and fluid management.
Significant aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, or other valve abnormalities must be identified before surgery. Severe valvular disease may require modification of the surgical approach, additional pre-operative intervention, or elevated anesthesia precautions. An echo is the only non-invasive way to directly assess valve function.
Regional wall motion abnormalities can indicate prior myocardial infarction or areas of reduced coronary blood flow — important context for surgical risk stratification. Chamber size, wall thickness, and any pericardial effusion are also assessed as part of the complete pre-operative cardiac evaluation.
If you're scheduled for any of the following and your surgeon has requested a pre-op echo — or if you have cardiac risk factors — same-week imaging at home is available:
Hip replacement, knee replacement, and joint revision surgeries carry significant cardiac stress. Pre-op echo is standard for patients over 60 or with cardiac history.
Weight loss surgery programs routinely require cardiac clearance. Many bariatric patients have elevated cardiac risk from obesity, hypertension, or sleep apnea, making pre-op echo evaluation essential.
AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy, and peripheral bypass procedures require rigorous cardiac assessment. Vascular patients often carry concurrent cardiac disease that must be evaluated before major arterial surgery.
Bowel resection, hernia repair, and other major abdominal procedures under general anesthesia routinely require cardiac risk assessment, particularly for patients over 50 with cardiovascular risk factors.

Emanuel Papadakis, RDCS, RVT, arrives with hospital-grade portable ultrasound equipment. No preparation required. The scan takes approximately 30–45 minutes and is completely painless.
Every echocardiogram is reviewed by a board-certified cardiologist. The written report includes EF, valve assessment, wall motion findings, and overall cardiac structure — everything your surgical team needs.
The formal written report is delivered to you within 24–48 hours and can be forwarded directly to your surgeon, surgical facility, or pre-admissions office. Your pre-op clearance checklist gets checked — without a weeks-long delay.

Pre-operative cardiac clearance delays are one of the most common causes of surgical postponements in Maine. When your patient needs a cardiac clearance echo and the 6-week hospital wait threatens their surgical date, BlackPoint Diagnostics is a direct solution.

Surgeons and anesthesiologists need to know how well your heart pumps (ejection fraction), whether your valves are functioning normally, and whether there are any structural cardiac issues that affect surgical or anesthetic risk. An echocardiogram is the standard imaging test that answers these questions non-invasively before major surgery.
The formal written report from the reviewing board-certified cardiologist is delivered within 24–48 hours of the scan. In time-sensitive pre-op situations, please let us know your surgical date when booking and we will prioritize your appointment and report accordingly.
Yes. The cardiologist report can be delivered to you, your surgeon's office, your surgical facility, or all three simultaneously. Provide the contact information when booking and we will handle delivery.
BlackPoint Diagnostics is a cash-pay service and does not bill insurance directly. At $397, the cost is a fraction of a typical hospital-billed echocardiogram. Some patients with HSA or FSA accounts may be able to use those funds. Your surgical facility may have additional guidance on how the report is used for pre-admission requirements.
No special preparation is required. You do not need to fast, avoid medications, or restrict activity. Wear comfortable clothing with easy access to the chest. Emanuel will set up at your home and the scan takes approximately 30–45 minutes.
