— BlackPoint Diagnostics —
Mobile cardiovascular ultrasound for seniors throughout Southern Maine — performed at your home, assisted living facility, or nursing care center. No driving. No waiting rooms. No referral required.
— Why Age Matters —
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in adults over 65, accounting for nearly 40% of all deaths in that age group. What makes it particularly dangerous is how quietly it advances — arterial plaque accumulates over decades, aneurysms enlarge without sensation, and heart function declines without obvious symptoms until a crisis occurs.
The scans that matter most are also the ones most commonly delayed — because getting to an imaging center becomes harder as mobility decreases, transportation becomes unreliable, and hospital environments become overwhelming. BlackPoint was built specifically to close that gap.
Affects 1 in 8 adults over 65. Often develops silently — detectable on echocardiogram before symptoms become severe.
Two-thirds of all strokes occur after age 65. Carotid artery plaque is the leading preventable cause — visible on ultrasound years before rupture.
AAA screening is a USPSTF Grade B recommendation for all men 65–75 who have ever smoked. Rupture is fatal — detection takes 20 minutes.
PAD and DVT are significantly more common in older adults with limited mobility. Both are detectable before they cause amputation or pulmonary embolism.
— The Access Problem —
The patients who most need cardiovascular screening are often the ones least able to access it through traditional channels. For older adults, the barriers are real and compounding:
No longer driving, relying on family schedules, or unable to afford ride services to imaging centers miles away.
Difficulty getting in and out of cars, navigating large hospital corridors, or remaining still on hard imaging tables.
Hospital imaging appointments booked 4–8 weeks out — and that's before insurance authorization delays are added.
For many older patients, going to a hospital — even for a simple outpatient scan — triggers significant stress and avoidance.
BlackPoint eliminates every one of those barriers:
Your home, your chair, your schedule. No travel, no logistics, no relying on anyone else to get there.
We bring a portable table and all equipment. Scans are done lying down in a familiar, private environment.
No weeks-long waits. Appointments typically available within 3–5 days throughout Southern Maine.
A dedicated ARDMS-certified sonographer focused entirely on you — no rushing, no crowded waiting room.
— Recommended Scans —
Four studies have the highest clinical value in adults over 60. All four are available mobile at your location.
The most complete non-invasive heart test. Evaluates ejection fraction (heart pumping strength), valve function, wall motion, and chamber size. Critical for detecting heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and valve disease — all of which increase sharply with age.
Detects plaque and stenosis in the carotid arteries — the direct pathway to stroke. Particularly important for anyone with a history of hypertension, high cholesterol, smoking, or prior TIA (mini-stroke). Two-thirds of all strokes occur in adults over 65.
A USPSTF Grade B recommendation for all men aged 65–75 who have ever smoked. Abdominal aortic aneurysms are silent until they rupture — and rupture is fatal in over 80% of cases. Detection takes 20 minutes. Also recommended for women with significant cardiac risk factors.
Deep vein thrombosis is significantly more common in older adults with limited mobility, recent surgery, or long periods of inactivity. A DVT that travels to the lungs (pulmonary embolism) is life-threatening. Both legs evaluated in a single session.
— For Families —
Many of our patients are arranged by adult children who are managing a parent's health from near or far. The process is straightforward — you book the appointment online, enter your parent's address, and we handle the rest. The report is delivered to whatever email address you specify.
If you have questions before booking — about which scans are most appropriate, what your parent should expect, or how to prepare — call us directly at (207) 409-7797. We're happy to walk through it with you.
Results are shared with any physician you designate. Many families use BlackPoint findings to initiate a cardiology referral or inform an upcoming PCP visit.
Sonographer arrives with all equipment — no setup burden on you or your parent.
Performed lying down, no discomfort, no needles. Takes 20–60 minutes depending on study.
